The quick answer is,  absolutely! Because you’re actually joining us a couple, we don’t ask couples to rotate.

Part of the reason for that is we understand that when you’re coming together you want a bond. You don’t want to worry about work and connect with someone that you deeply love and share that experience of dancing, growing, laughing and connecting.

So couples that come into our school, we don’t ask them to rotate. We’re not gonna ask you to break up with the person that you just came with and to force you to dance with other people.

The bigger thing is, I want every single person to feel like they #belong. I think the Latin dance floors should have everyone feel like they’re accepted. Everyone should feel like they #belong wherever you land on the LGBTQA spectrum. I believe that in our school, everyone has a place.

Now, the reality is sometimes people are uncomfortable with that. I always try to figure out creative and quick solution so that everyone can learn and everyone can feel good. One of the things I work hard is when I talk in my classes I make sure to use pronouns like leader and follower instead of male and female. Me as an instructor and as a dancer, I lead and I follow. So gender, it’s very fluid which role you want to take up as a leader or as a follower.

My personal experience is when I went clubbing one time to a Latin club and there weren’t enough women to dance with. I started going up to the guys and asking them to dance where I would follow. I had seven guys back to back tell me no. In fact, the last few guys that saw me approaching would just walk away. That was really harsh. I remember them but I didn’t give up. I wanted to have a great time, I wanted to have a dance and understood that some people aren’t comfortable and it’s not gonna ruin my night. I remember the eighth guy I asked to dance, I had the best dance of the night with that guy. We were laughing, he was dipping me. I’m not a small guy but he was dipping me. It was so much fun and I felt like I #belong in that instance.

So, wherever you land on the spectrum, I want to make sure you feel like you #belong here. If you feel like you have a special circumstance that’s maybe not addressed here, please email us, messaged me or call me. I work really hard that in our school, at our socials and in our classes, everyone has a space to grow, to learn and to dance.
