We want every single person at our school to feel comfortable, to feel like they #belong.

The last thing that helps feel like you #belong is partnering up with people or anybody that you feel uncomfortable with. So the easiest solution is to bring a friend or a family member to join you and you don’t rotate.

For people who come with a partner, we don’t ask them to rotate so they stay with that person. So for example, if you are a female and you want to bring one of your girlfriends to partner up with or your mom, then one of you learns to lead and one of you learns to follow. The same thing, if you’re a male and feel uncomfortable dancing with a female, that’s okay. You can bring one of your friends, a brother, your father, or whoever and partner up and dance with them.

Salsa and Bachata are incredibly beautiful dances. One of the most rewarding things I experienced as a dancer when I started learning to dance is connecting with someone. Definitely you want to be able to connect with someone you feel comfortable with. So for you and for us, it’s always a great experience when you’re dancing with someone you’re happy to dance with.

So ask one of your friends, one of your family members and bring them along. They’re going to have a great time and you’re going to have a great time as well.

I remember there were two students, a mother and a daughter. They came in and they asked me a question. They said, they don’t feel comfortable dancing with other people and asking if she can just dance with her daughter. And I said, absolutely! So they went up to level two. The mother led and the daughter followed and they had fun. They were dancing, they were laughing, we were all joyous, and every time we left, we’d all hug and it was just a great experience.

So find someone you’re comfortable with of the same gender and partner up with him. You’re going to have a great time and we’re going to have a great time. I do believe that everybody #belongs on the dance floor. Sometimes it takes a little bit more work to coordinate, but it’s worth it.

The best part is when you start to dance you realize how much you’ve been missing out on it. So don’t miss out because you’re uncomfortable dancing with the opposite gender.
