The question is kind of two parts, so let me address both.

The first part of “do you offer competition opportunities? I want to compete and be trained”. For training, we can offer private lessons. This is to make you a better dancer so you’re capable of going to compete. So for that question, yes we have a few instructors who have performance experience. If you want to do private lessons with one of them to train and then create your own choreography. Absolutely!

The other part of the question is “do we have performance groups”. I wish I could say yes, but the answer is no. As of the moment, we don’t have any performance groups that you can join. It always comes down to the passion of our instructor if they want to lead a performance group. However, we don’t have any instructors yet who are interested in it so we don’t offer it. We always want to offer what the instructors are passionate about. That’s what makes our instructors so great because they love what they do and we don’t ask them to do things that they don’t want to do.

There are a lot of schools that do offer competitions. Here are some general things you want to keep in mind if you are going to join potentially another school that offers a performance group/opportunity to train for a competition.

Look at is what type of style of dance that they do. In our school, we teach Salsa on One. Other schools teach Salsa on ONE or Salsa on TWO. With Salsa on TWO, you just have to learn some new skill sets. So if you to one type of beat and have to change to another, there will be a learning curve. Just be prepared for that.

There are also Bachata performance groups that other schools offer. You want to really look at the culture of any school you want to join. So I’d suggest you email them, come in and meet with the instructor or the coach who’s doing the performance group. You can just grab a cup of coffee, sit down, talk to them and get to know them. See if you will fit in and have a great time.

Every single school including our school has a unique culture and you want to be able to feel like you #belong. Part of that is just coming in, feeling the vibe and the energy. This is to make sure that you will feel comfortable and are able to commit because these are longterm commitments. Performance groups are anywhere from three months to a year plus. Because of that, make sure that whatever you sign up for or whatever you commit to, you will feel at home.
