Can Salsa dancing help you lose weight?

I have been dancing for years and if it weren’t for Salsa I would have been in much worse shape.

So can salsa help you lose weight? Yes absolutely and here are the top 3 ways that it will.

1 Building routine into your life. The thing that always held me back isn’t that I didn’t know how to lose the weight. The problem was a lack of consistent follow-through. For a long time, I would make mY new year’s resolution and after a few weeks in January I would just give up. So when you start to take Salsa dance classes on a regular, you start to build the one thing that was missing. Consistency! I have gotten to see so many students come week to week and over the months began to see a beautiful physical transformation.

2. You get your steps up! Most people have a sit-down job and do the very little movement.  In an average 1-hour dance class you do between 1200 to 2000 steps. Do not even get me started on once you start to go social dancing with others. An hour at a Salsa nightclub, you burn 170 to 300 plus calories. Way more fun than going to a gym, I will tell you that.

3. Learning to love yourself…because that was always my problem. I’ll be honest, there were many times during my dance career when I was overweight. Part of the reason was, that I didn’t pick food that loved me.  The major reason is I didn’t love the vehicle (my body) that I used. As I started to dance more and more though, I found, I was out of breath more, I was more sluggish and I started to feel frustrated. So indirectly, because I feel in love with Salsa, I wanted a vehicle that could flow with Salsa better. So I started to take better care of myself when I wasn’t dancing.

The trust is, that there is no one fix but I believe that momentum is everything. When you start to dance Salsa, you start to do a fun, fast, activity that helps you just get out of the house. On top of creating positive routines, more steps in your day and self-love you start to gain.

So can Salsa dancing help you lose weight…absolutely!
