Why Dance Salsa?

There are so many reasons why you should dance Salsa! Taking my first Salsa class was One of the best decisionsof my life. I started at Toronto Dance Salsa as a level 1 student. I had two left feet, was awkward, overweight, had medical conditions, and yet when I took my first class…I felt at home. Salsa is spicy, it’s fun, it’s playful and here are 3 reasons why you should take it:

Find the Family You Need

I never knew what it felt like to be accepted until I started to take dance classes. Every time I would come in, the Helpers and the instructor would welcome me, give me high fives. There was always a celebration when I would come into class. I became friends with the other students. I consider many of them family. It was amazing how after class we would go to socials, grab drinks and food. There is this infectious positive energy with Salsa that you cannot deny. Some of the kindest and warmest human beings I have ever met have been on the dance floor. The culture of Salsa is family.

Exercise Made Fun

In a single hour of a Salsa class, you do about 1500-2000 steps and burn 200 plus calories. The best part is you don’t even notice it because you are just having fun, connecting with others and getting lost in the energy, fun, and music. I hated going to the gym and Salsa got me out of the house and moving. At one point, I was dancing 6 days a week and I will tell you…after dancing 2-3 hours that often, how can you not be a bit more fit? It is Danced Everywhere!

I mean everywhere…where they allow dancing of course. But you can go to Havana, New York, St. Petersburg, Seoul, Tokyo…anywhere in the world and find a Salsa club. You don’t need to speak the local language, you don’t need to speak Spanish, you just need to know how to dance. It’s simple! I love traveling to different parts of the world and as soon as I land (if I haven’t already done the research) I am looking for all the Latin clubs in that area so I can go out and dance. There is nothing like when you step on the dance floor in a brand new place and feel this welcoming energy, where everyone just wants to connect and have fun. If you are nervous about what to expect at a Salsa club, I have you covered. Read here about some tips for Social Dancing.

I can’t wait to welcome you to our big family, have you come in week to week, have fun, connect with new friends, and let loose to amazing Latin songs. Click here to check our current schedule.
