Where is Salsa Dance Performed?
Whenever you want to have fun! That’s when Salsa should be performed. Here are a couple of ideas to think about and some places where and when you can find Salsa Dancing.
- Weddings or Big Parties.
I’ve had the great fortune of being invited to weddings to perform for friends and family. As well, I have had couples come into my studio where I’ve choreographed their first dance with them. Weddings are one amazing place and time when Salsa dance is at its best because you have a group of people and you want something lively, something energetic, something fun. Whether it’s done by the couple getting married, or they invite a professional team to perform, it’s an amazing time. Honestly, any time you have a big event, Salsa dance is a great idea to infuse fun, energy and enthusiasm into the event. The music will get people up and moving and having a great time.
- Latin Clubs
There are many Latin Clubs in Toronto, or most likely in any city around the world. Occasionally, Latin Clubs will have dance schools come in to do Salsa performances. These performances are ways for schools to promote their classes as well as help them get ready for the big events or competitions. There are many dance schools that really focus on high level competitions and performances. And so, schools running events at Latin Clubs gives them an opportunity to raise their profile, practice and gain new members. Dancing in a more relaxed, casual atmosphere is a great way for them to test and train and for you to check out some of the best dancers with some friends and some drinks.
- Conventions
Salsa Conventions, Bachata Conventions, Latin Conventions – there are many that happen all around the world. We are fortunate to be living in Toronto, which is the best city in Canada for Latin Dancing. In Toronto, you can go out any single night of the week to find a place to dance Salsa. And of course, the Canada Salsa Congress happens in Toronto. As I am writing this, I have a huge smile on my face because I am looking forward to it so much! It’s gonna be coming up in October. And at the Congress, there are dozens of performances, including competitions. At competitions you get to sit in the crowd and be wowed and in awe of some truly amazing dancers. Everyone from amateurs to semi-pros to professional dancers are there and it is truly inspiring to see them perform. It’s incredible, it’s beautiful. And if you have the great fortune of actually going to a convention, I mean it’s just wow.
