What Countries Dance Salsa?

The short answer is everywhere. Salsa is danced in all countries with the only exception maybe being North Korea. But in my heart of hearts, I believe that even in North Korea people dance Salsa in their homes.

Universality

Starting Salsa was the best decision I ever made. I have travelled to Latin countries and non-Latin countries and no matter where I travel, I can find at least one club for Salsa dancing. You can go to South Korea, Ecuador, Italy, Russia, the United States, China, Turkey, Germany, Spain (I mean obviously), Poland, Netherlands, Japan, Sudan, Algeria, France… anywhere… and you can find a Salsa club or a restaurant that plays Salsa music and people gather to dance. It’s one of the most transferable dances you can learn. Of all the dances I have learned -Tango, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Kizomba etc – Salsa opens the most doors.

Connection

Knowing how to dance Salsa means that you don’t have to speak the local language but your body will speak the universal rhythm of Salsa. All you have to do is smile and extend your hand to a dance partner and begin to dance. This means that no matter what country you are in, you can experience the joy of getting lost in the Latin rhythm, connecting to another person and feeling like you #belong when you dance Salsa.

Community

The Salsa community is warm, friendly, welcoming, and safe as well.

People are so friendly because everyone is there to just have fun, connect and let loose. I have lost count of the number of times I left my wallet and/or cell phone unattended while I danced and they were always right where I left them when I returned. This is true of Salsa Dance clubs in every country I have visited. So if you are looking for a new community to join, Salsa is one of the best.
