Why Toronto is the Best City in Canada for Salsa

Toronto is a great city. It’s my home. It is a place I love. I love it for the variety of food available, the opportunities for growth in business but also because Toronto is the best place for Salsa in Canada. Here are three reasons why I believe that’s the truth. And when you join the amazing world of Salsa dancing you will know it is true.

Social Dancing.

Before COVID, in the Greater Toronto Area, you could go out every night of the week social dancing. We have nightclubs, school socials, Latin clubs that are all competing for dancers – and they are all full. Many nights you have your choice of two or three different venues to go out Salsa dancing. When I was a student, I would go out six days a week. I would have gone seven but I was exhausted from a full-time job and studying. As COVID is receding, I’m finding everything is coming back stronger than ever. You can’t get that in most other cities. Even other Salsa hotspots that I’ve been to like Miami, Los Angeles and Montreal don’t have as vibrant a social dance scene as Toronto.

Number and Variety of Dance Schools.

I love the fact that there is such a huge variety of dance schools, Salsa schools, Bachata schools, all kinds of schools. You can learn Cuban Salsa, modern Salsa (which is what we teach), sensual Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba etc. Some focus on performance, others on learning basic up to advanced moves, and others on preparing you for events. There are so many schools and as a dancer you get to pick the type of curriculum, the instructors – everything. If you live in the Toronto area – explore. If you Google Salsa Dance schools in Toronto, dozens will come up. Check out Google reviews and listen to the advice of friends but you will definitely find a school that is right for you.

Variety of Dancers.

\At any social dance event, I can dance with 10 different dancers from 10 different parts of the world and I love that. I love that variety. I love the fact that we might not even speak the same language, but our bodies both speak the language of dance. I love meeting new people and connecting through dance with new people. When you dance with someone you have four minutes together where you get to create something unique and new and connect with people from different cultures, different energies. It’s amazing.

And so if you love variety, both in schools and in people, if you want to have lots of options on where you can go dancing, Toronto is number one, And if you’re reading this and you’re planning to visit, don’t wait. And if you’re living in Toronto already, I’m giving you a virtual high five. And I hope at some point, whether it’s at our school, at our socials or on another dance floor, I get to meet you, dance with you and have fun with you.

I can’t wait to welcome you to our big family, have you come in week to week, have fun, connect with new friends and let loose to amazing Latin songs. Click here to check our current schedule.
