Salsa Toronto: Salsa Nightclub Outings!

Salsa in Toronto is amazing, especially if you go to your first Salsa Nightclub Outings! When I went to my first Salsa Nightclub Outing, I felt intimidated and awkward. Let’s make it easy on you! Are you looking to go out dancing for the first time and want to make sure you are ready?  Here are 3 pieces of advice to make sure you don’t feel overwhelmed during class.

Ask someone to dance right away!

I wish I had been told this when I first started going out dancing. That is when you go to your first…or second or even 100th outing. Don’t be a wallflower or worse (sit down) as soon as you get in. I’m an overthinker and the only way to get out of my head is through action. So when you go out dancing at a Salsa Nightclub Outing, make sure you ask someone to dance within the first 10 minutes. Think of it as an ice breaker, a great way to build momentum.

Do the lessons!

It can be intimidating when you go out to a Salsa Nightclub Outing and just come for the social. I encourage my students to come earlier, pick up some cool moves (most events will have some lessons before the party) and warm-up. It’s a great way to get to know some of the people before the lights go down, to talk with them, and feel comfortable. It’s always great to also to just dance longer so you get the most out of your night! A Salsa outing can go anywhere from 3-5 hours, so, make the most of it with the lesson!

Salsa is about being 1% better

We just had an amazing Salsa Nightclub Outing (Salsa Loves Bachata) and a student I was dancing with (a beginner) said that everyone is better than her. I looked around, smiled and said “No they aren’t” I made the mistake as a social dancer and kept comparing myself to others. This would make the nights worse for me, because it just made me more self-conscious. So when she asked me that, I could see there were other students there who had even less experience than her. The trouble is you never notice that when you compare yourself with others. So instead, approach every Salsa Nightclub Outing as a chance to get 1% better than you were the previous time you went. That’s all!
