Fun Couple Ideas

If you are looking for some fun couple ideas and want an easy way to reconnect with your partner then Salsa and Bachata dancing is for you. I have been an instructor for over eight years and one of the most amazing things I get to witness is couples falling in love over and over again, every week in our dance classes. It doesn’t matter if you just started dating or you have been married for 30 years, dancing allows you to have a mini vacation once a week.

I can’t imagine a better idea for a fun couple’s night than dancing. When you are dancing together, you laugh and support each other. Especially dancing in a positive and warm environment. A place where everyone cheers you on. Even if you have two left feet, you’re still a winner. You’re a winner in your partner’s eyes, you are a winner in the instructor’s eyes and your classmate’s eyes.

So here are three reasons why dancing is great for a couple’s night.

Improve Your Communication Skills Through Dance

In Salsa and Bachata communication is key. You have a Leader and you have a Follower. One person is learning to direct and give clear signals. The other person is working on being a better listener. Clarity and listening are the keys to communication both on and off the dance floor. When you have two people talking at the same time, no one is listening…it’s just noise. When two people are waiting for each other to talk…you just have silence. So not only do you learn how to be better at communicating and listening but you also learn to be more compassionate in how you communicate. I have seen couples come in, argue at the beginning of level 1, and then start to hug and kiss and smile and connect like school kids by the end. It’s amazing. So not only do you get to have a fun couple’s night out by dancing and learning a new skill together but you get to improve your communication skills.

If You Need More Fun as Couple Consistency is Key

I think one of the reasons that couples struggle is because they stop spending time together. We all get busy – work, school, and family commitments all take time. So we often end up sacrificing time with our partners. But I’m a strong believer that when you commit to something every week and put it in your calendar, you honour that time. Nothing else gets in the way of you two connecting, reconnecting and sharing time.

When I first took over the dance school, my girlfriend at the time had a standard nine-to-five schedule. I worked from five pm to twelve am. She was frustrated and we argued about never spending time together. So I said to her “Ok, starting next week, every Tuesday you and I are going to do date night. No spending time with others, no family time, no work.” It improved our relationship. She didn’t feel neglected and I felt more connected. Relationships aren’t built or maintained on birthdays, vacations or special occasions. It’s the consistent things we do together…so why not dance?

Dance is a Practical Skill and a Fun Idea for Couples

When you learn to dance Salsa, Bachata or many other Latin dances you can use those skills outside of a dance class. The goal is always that you can go to a Latin nightclub and have fun. So you can travel the world and dance anywhere or you can dance in your living room. Having fun as a couple is the important part. That means once you learn that skill, all you need is music and any place becomes a getaway for you.

So learning dance is a fun couple idea. You spend time together – whether that is in dance class, in your living room or while travelling the world – laughing, learning, connecting, and communicating. What could be more fun than that? And if you are solo and want to learn dance, don’t worry  – dancing is still a great activity and we have you covered. Click on the link to learn more.
