Dancing with Fear: My Oops Moment with Les Brown

“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.” – Les Brown

Imagine being at a star-studded event, surrounded by the likes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson flexing his muscles and Kevin Hart cracking up the room with his infectious laughter. Now, imagine being handed the golden mic to ask a question in this dazzling setting. Dreamy, right? Well, for me, it was more of a delightful misadventure sprinkled with a bit of comic relief.

It all began at a virtual conference, buzzing with over 3,000 eager attendees. The main attraction? None other than the legendary Les Brown. Think of him as the Michael Jordan of motivational speaking, dunking wisdom into the hoops of our minds. Through some sneaky behind-the-scenes magic conjured by my mentor, I was given the once-in-a-lifetime chance to ask Les one burning question. The excitement was palpable, but oh boy, so were the nerves!

The Grand Preparation

Before diving into my comical meltdown, let’s rewind a bit. In the lead-up to this golden opportunity, I had my question meticulously prepared. I scribbled, re-scribbled, rehearsed, and re-rehearsed. I wanted it to be insightful, meaningful, and something that would resonate with everyone. After all, how often do you get to chat with someone who’s the equivalent of the motivational world’s Michael Jordan?

From Hero to Zero in Seconds

With my question locked and loaded, I waited for my turn. But when the spotlight hit, my brain pulled a classic prank on me. Instead of the eloquent, insightful individual I had envisioned, I morphed into a blubbering fanboy. There were tears (oh, so many tears), incoherent ramblings of admiration for Les, and my well-rehearsed question? It decided to play hide and seek.

The Emotional Rollercoaster

In the aftermath of my Oscar-worthy performance, I was swamped with a whirlwind of emotions. There was a generous dose of embarrassment, a sprinkle of shame, and a massive “Did that seriously just happen?” moment. But amidst this emotional cocktail, my mentor, with his ever-so-cool demeanor, laughed it off. His words were a beacon of comfort, reminding me that while I might have missed the shot, I had the guts to step onto the court.

The Bigger Picture

Here’s where the plot thickens. Life, in all its unpredictable glory, isn’t about waiting on the sidelines until fear decides to take a vacation. It’s about waltzing with it, even if you have two left feet. Yes, I might have missed my golden opportunity with Les, but the real trophy? The audacity to step into the limelight, even if it meant tripping over my own feet.

Reflecting on this comical misadventure, I realized something profound. Throughout our lives, we’re presented with numerous stages. Sometimes we dazzle, and other times, we might falter. But isn’t that the essence of life? It’s not about perfection but the journey, with all its highs, lows, and hilarious bloopers.

A Call to Dance with Life

Embrace the week with a playful spirit and a heart full of courage. Stumble, giggle, and then pick yourself up. Dive headfirst into opportunities, even if they seem daunting. Because, in the grand tapestry of life, it’s not about getting every step right but cherishing the dance, missteps, and all.

In the words of the great Les Brown, “Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.” So, why not make your life a delightful dance of daring endeavors, sprinkled with a dash of humor? After all, every misstep is just a step towards a more vibrant story. 🕺💃🎤🤣
