Bachata Classes – Do I need a partner?

No, you don’t need a partner to learn Bachata, as in you don’t need to bring your own partner to join. Especially if you join the right dance school. Here are some tips on picking the right school and even finding a partner as well.

Curriculum vs Drop-in

Sign up for Bachata classes with a school that has a curriculum. For single students (80% at our school) it’s easier when they don’t attend drop-in classes. When a school can predict how many leaders and followers it has, it should be able to balance the ratio. With drop-in classes for partner work dances (Salsa, Bachata), you will find that there can be 16 girls and 7 guys…that’s rough.

Volunteers Help

A big enough dance school should have 3-6 volunteers in the Bachata classes you are attending. We call them Helpers at our school, they help us balance numbers. Not only that but they also help make it a great experience, answer student questions and more. Some schools will only offer 1 instructor and not even an assistant and you want to ask about that of the school you are looking at.

Ask someone you know

I mean it seems obvious but most people don’t ask. Ask a friend, a family member, or your coworker. If you find the nearest school doesn’t have volunteers and it’s all drop-in-based classes, at least bring a friend. Everything is more fun with a friend and if you never ask, it’s always a no.
