Absolutely not. Okay, Let’s talk a little bit further about it. When I first got into a significant relationship, my partner and I agreed that we wouldn’t dance Bachata too closely with other dancers but dance close only with each other.

See, it can get a little intimate when you start dancing and you’re in a relationship, especially Bachata dancing. It definitely can. Some people care about that, and some people don’t. So it depends on your upbringing, what you feel comfortable with, how comfortable you feel with other people being close to you, and how close you want to be with others.

So, when we first started dating, I remember my partner mentioned that she’d prefer that we would not dance close to other dancers. I said, absolutely no problem, especially at that point. I was starting to teach at a school that I run now, and for me, I would never dream of dancing close with my students; it’d only be with my partner.

And I remember, as we started to dance more and more, we would have arguments over the fact that sometimes dancing was too close and it caused many problems. Not because Bachata dancing or any kind of dancing is a sin. That was not the reason; it was because, ultimately, we were both Insecure and uncomfortable seeing us dance with other people.

Bachata, like any dance, is about connection, and it comes down to the reason for having the connection.  No more than grabbing a couple of coffee with someone or catching a movie with someone. It depends on how you see that engagement and what you expect from that moment. And it would be crazy for me to imagine that, just like that movie Dirty Dancing, they would outlaw dancing because it is considered taboo. Dancing is a healthy way for people to process their emotions. Dancing is a way to build trust and connection on a dance floor with others. Dancing is an expression of freedom, confidence and joy.

So Bachata dancing or Salsa dancing, none of these are a sin. I think it would be a sin not to dance it. So I hope that someday I get to meet you on the dance floor, welcome you as part of the school, and get to teach you and dance with you and show you how incredible It is.
